About Me

From left to right: My brother (Evan), twin brother (Collin),
father (Keith), mother (Karen), sister (Megan), and myself.
My name is Nathan Horwood and I was born and raised in the suburbs of Salt Lake City, Utah. There, I lived in the same house for my entire childhood, attended the same church, and even went to the same school for all of my education; preschool-12th grade. I grew up with two wonderfully loving parents who raised me and my three siblings: Megan, Evan, and Collin. I am the youngest person in my family, though only by a mere hour, since Collin is my identical twin brother. While most of my early life was very predictable and regular, when I was seven years old, my family went to Papua New Guinea for four months to be missionaries of the Nazarene church. Altogether, I am very grateful for the enjoyable and unique childhood I had.

My entire life, I have loved being involved in all kinds of activities. I grew up playing sports like basketball and baseball, though soccer was certainly my family's favorite. I have had fun participating in music through concert band, bell choir, and vocal ensemble and have spent many great nights with my nose stuck in a book. I have been in multiple theatrical productions, like "Sherlock Holmes" and "The Wizard of Oz", and I have enjoyed learning in school about language, math, and other subjects. I like to spend time with friends, watch movies, go hiking, and play all kinds of games. I have always had a particular fascination with animals, which is what has drawn me toward the teaching field of biology. As a result of this passion, I have both volunteered and worked at the Salt Lake City "Hogle Zoo" and am now double-majoring in Biology and Biology Education at Northwest Nazarene University.

But another passion that has significantly shaped my life in recent years is my passion for teaching. I am most definitely a people-person, and I really take joy in trying to help those around me. As the youngest in my family (and in many areas of my life), I have always sympathized with those who are younger than I am. As a result, I love to teach. From helping out at Vacation Bible School to helping peers with schoolwork, I simply enjoy the experience of teaching. I know that teaching is a great way for me to make a difference in the world, that it is a promising career for me that will be full of its own kind of adventure, and that I will be satisfied if I pursue a career in education.
